Viruses of Nigeria: From Colonial to Neo-Colonial Times
Please join us for the special presentation by Dr. Oyewale Tomori on Wednesday, November 13th, from 4-5pm at the Galveston National Lab in Room 1.100.
Dr. Oyewale Tomori, DVM, PhD, is internationally known for his leadership on global public health issues, as well as for his passion for ending epidemics and life threatening diseases in Africa. He is a virology professor and the former Vice Chancellor for Redeemer's University in Nigeria, as well as the Past President of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He has collaborated for more than four decades with scientists around the world, including many UTMB researchers studying the most dangerous and deadly diseases on the planet, including Polio, Lassa, and Ebola.
In this special presentation, Dr. Tomori will share a historical perspective on the viruses of Nigeria, including the barriers (and solutions) to collaboratively solving deadly health issues. His talk will touch on medical, cultural and political factors.
