UTMB’s 650 certified nurses were celebrated for their professionalism and commitment to excellence in patient care on March 19.

In recognition of Certified Nurses Day, all certified nurses were invited to a reception in their honor where they received a ribbon for their badges and a gift. CND posters were displayed throughout the hospitals and clinics, with an information display featured in the hallway outside of Café on the Court. Winners who participated in the essay contest, “How Does Your Nursing Certification Enhance Your Practice” were also recognized. Please see the Shining Stars section of this newsletter to see the list of winners.

UTMB encourages national board certification for all its nurses and employs about 650 specialty-certified nurses in the In-patient, Ambulatory, Angleton Danbury Campus, Correctional Managed Care, Regional Maternal Child Health and the School of Nursing settings.

Board certification of nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and their loved ones. While a registered nurse license provides entry to general nursing practice, the knowledge-intensive requirements of modern nursing require extensive education, as well as a strong personal commitment to excellence by the nurse.

Thank you, Nurses, for your dedication, hard work and a job well done!
