On Oct. 5, 1891, the founding members of the University of Texas Medical Department met for the first time—in Old Red—with 23 students and 13 faculty members.

Little did they know that UTMB would become a center for scientific inquiry, a training ground for the future of medicine, and a catalyst for improving the health of society.

Ours is a story of resilience, of the never-ending drive for excellence, and of lasting commitment to defining the future of health care. Beginning this October, we will mark this momentous 125th year with a series of special events to celebrate our rich history and legacy.
