Faculty Profile

Dr. Jana is a board-certified hematologist and medical oncologist. He provides consultation in genitourinary oncology and hematology at the UTMB MDA Cancer Center in Galveston and MD Anderson Cancer Center in League City. Dr. Jana completed his medical degree in Madras Medical College in Chennai, India in 1991. He completed medical residency in Christ Hospital, University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He completed his fellowship in hematology and oncology in Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York University, New York. He was then recruited as faculty in Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY and subsequently as faculty in University of Central Florida and Florida Hospital in Orlando, FL. He joined the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2010. He is the Section Chief of hematology and oncology at UTMB-MDA Galveston. He holds appointments as Professor in the Department of Medicine at UTMB and Professor in the Division of Cancer Medicine at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Jana graduated with MBA and MHA at the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Dr. Jana’s interest includes understanding and controlling the cost of cancer care. He serves as the Chair of UTMB Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee.

Dr. Jana has published several manuscripts and book chapters. He is the principal investigator for several genitourinary cancer clinical trials at UTMB and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Jana’s clinical interest includes treatment genitourinary cancers and hematology. He is the principal investigator of ETCTN network grant for medical oncology at UTMB to conduct early phase clinical trials. Dr. Jana is the recipient of large collaborative CIPRIT grant funding between MD Anderson, UTMB and LBJ oncology to improve the availability of cutting-edge cancer clinical trials to the patients in Galveston region.
