Hello all.
After a rigorous search process, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Nguyen as our Department of Medicine Vice Chair for Community Clinical Programs - Outpatient. Dr. Nguyen is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Medicine.
He will play a crucial role as a leader and voice for the Department of Medicine (DOM) outpatient clinical care across the mainland campuses of Clear Lake and League City. In his vice-chair role. Dr. Nguyen will work closely with the UTMB-Health CEOs
for Clear Lake and League City, the UTMB Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and the Vice President for Ambulatory Operations as well as the Chief Physician Executive representing the Faculty Group Practice. A huge thank you to the recruitment committee
for their advice and service.
Dr. Michael Nguyen and his family are a first-generation immigrant family from Vietnam. Uniquely, he saw UTMB off the shores of Galveston Bay from their family shrimping boat and remembered seeing it as a child and wanted to be part of such a great institution.
Dr. Nguyen graduated from Texas City High School and has been in Galveston County since 1980. Completed his Undergraduate at The University of Houston. He then completed his doctorate at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Nguyen
has been with UTMB since 2003, where he started and finished his residency. He proceeded to graduate from Texas A&M with a master’s in business administration in Healthcare Admin. and a Master of Public Health in Biostatics & Epidemiology.
He is the Co-recipient of the Damon & Carolyn Gowan Professorship of Excellence in Ambulatory Medicine. His former leadership roles include the following, medical student education including 3rd year clerkships and 4th year electives, MSRDP Budget
& Finance Committee, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Access Champion, and Coordination of Care Committee. His current Leadership roles include Medical Director of Internal Medicine at Victory Lakes, Medical Director of 10C Jennie Sealy
Hospital, Remmers Team Leader, Unit Based & Ambulatory Based Clinical Leadership. Day to day activities range from being a primary care physician, clinic preceptor of our IM residents, and attending hospital rounds with the medical teams.
I am thrilled to have Dr. Nguyen serving in this new and important role.
Thanks,
