Dr. David Changli Wei

Please join us in welcoming David Changli Wei, MD, PhD, Professor, to the Division of Nephrology!

Dr. David Changli Wei was trained in Clinical Medicine. He had been practicing Clinical Pathology before obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2003. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology, and then in Podocyte Pathobiology under the mentorship of Dr. Jochen Reiser. He became a junior faculty at Harvard Medical school in 2007 and a Research Associate Professor in 2012 at University of Miami. Before joining UTMB, he was a faculty member at Rush University Medical Center, where he became full Professor in 2019. Dr. Wei’s main research interests lie in proteinuric kidney disease, the implication of circulating factors in particular. As an indispensable team member, he has published numerous high impact journal papers, and continuously received grant support from NIH, industry and/or foundations. As an avid educator, he has mentored many graduate students in different roles over the span of 20 years. Additionally, he has served various Institute level committees from faculty promotion to medical student recruitment and curriculums.
