Featured in each issue of the of the Research Newsletter is a quick biography of the staff who guide us and our applications through to submission. This edition, we recognize Roberto Hernandez, Grants Administrator for ASGII.
Roberto started at UTMB in 2007 in the Grants and contracts office. As grant accountant, he was responsible for submission of financial status reports to sponsors. He became team lead and senior financial analyst, supervising a team of 5 financial analyst that coordinated post-award responsibilities.
Mr. Hernandez moved to Medicine Services in 2015 as a grant administrator and spends most of his time on the post award, financials, side of the grants cycle. He helps PIs manage and forecast grant budgets for the divisions of Infectious Disease, Geriatrics, Gen Med, Nephrology and MDA, and the department of Neurosurgery. He ensures that our personnel are sourced correctly and purchases are within guidelines. He also completes, verifies, and submits key financial report, including annual progress reports and carry-over requests. He manages ECRT reporting to ensure that committed effort matches sponsored effort, and contributes to the monthly grant revenue variance analysis.
