“Management reasoning: decision-making in the setting of diagnostic and therapeutic uncertainty”


Objectives: At this conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize management reasoning as an important component of clinical reasoning.
  2. Describe the variables that may be considered in semiquantitative risk-benefit analysis of therapeutic interventions under diagnostic uncertainty.
  3. Highlight the importance of practice-based learning and shared decision-making in management reasoning.

Target Audience and Needs: Internal Medicine faculty, staff, registered nurses, residents, fellows, students, and internists specializing in Allergy & Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Geriatrics, Hematology & Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, and Rheumatology need to be regularly updated with new research and guidelines regarding the evaluation and management of medical disorders and implement them in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods: Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Activity Evaluation: Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
