“Kathy is our Lead Anticoagulation nurse who independently sees patients in our anticoagulation clinic to assist with blood thinners. She recently saw a new patient who developed blood clots in his legs and lungs one month ago and ran out of his blood thinner two days prior to his appointment. He could not afford the blood thinner initially given to him at his hospital discharge or the injections that we typically start when someone is in this critical window and needs to have their blood thinned to prevent the propagation of the clot, which can be fatal. Additionally, he had no transportation to go to the pharmacy, and family members would not be able to assist until the following day. Kathy found a coupon for another 30-day supply of a different blood thinner, picked it up herself on behalf of the patient, and dropped it off at his house in the evening. This prevented an ER visit and may have avoided the complications of not receiving these critical medications. Just wanted to share how lucky we are to have her on our team!”
