  • Parvathaneni Named Chair of Radiation Oncology

    Upendra Parvathaneni, M.B., B.S., FRANZCR, will join UTMB as Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, effective Nov. 1. He will hold the John Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair in Radiation Oncology.

    Tuli Will Lead Department of Pediatrics as Next Chair

    Sanjeev Tuli, MD, MEd, FAAP, will join UTMB as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, effective Oct. 1, 2024. He will hold the John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Pediatrics.

    MD-PhD Student Yeung Named Jess Hay Chancellor's Fellow

    UTMB MD-PhD student, Jason Yeung, is the newest Jess Hay Chancellor’s Fellow. Mr. Yeung is currently investigating the neurological effects of long COVID-19 and will receive $15,000 to put toward his biomedical research endeavors.

    Dr. Sanja Sever Joins as VP, Drug Discovery, and Director of the Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery

    Sanja Sever, PhD, has joined UTMB as Vice President, Drug Discovery and Director of the Sealy Institute for Drug Discovery (SIDD), effective March. 1. This Institute has been funded by a generous gift from the Sealy & Smith Foundation. Dr. Sever is a prominent figure in the field of nephrology, most recently affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School.

    Welcome Dr. Salim Hayek, VP and Chief Transformation Officer

    We are excited to share that Salim Hayek, MD, has joined UTMB as Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer, effective March 1. In this critical capacity, Dr. Hayek reports directly to Dr. Vicente Resto within the Faculty Group Practice, where he will lead pivotal transformation initiatives aimed at elevating patient care, enhancing clinical outcomes, streamlining operational efficiency, and advancing clinical research throughout our esteemed institution. Dr. Hayek is also a standing member of the President’s Executive Committee.

    We are excited to share that Alan Landay, PhD, has joined UTMB as Vice President of Team Science, effective Feb. 1. He will bring research and clinical experts together to create collaborations at UTMB and with institutions across the region, state, and world.

    We are very happy to share some exciting news from our School of Public and Population Health. Following an extensive and rigorous review process, the Council on Education for Public Health has awarded the school its full five-year accreditation.
