After‑Hours & Breaking News

For urgent or breaking news inquiries outside of normal business hours, please call the Media Relations Hotline and leave a detailed voicemail including your deadline and contact information. A media relations representative will respond as soon as possible.

For Reporters

Interview requests with UTMB faculty, clinicians, and researchers
Expert commentary on breaking news and trending topics
Access to UTMB facilities for approved media coverage
Background information, fact‑checking, and institutional statements
High‑resolution photos, video, and logos (upon request)

Guidelines & Resources

To ensure compliance with UTMB policies and a seamless media experience, journalists are expected to follow these guidelines.

Filming, Photography & On‑Campus Access

All filming, photography, and recording on UTMB property requires advance approval and coordination through Media Relations. Media personnel must be escorted by a UTMB Media Relations representative at all times while on UTMB property. Media representatives must present valid media credentials and check in with Media Relations upon arrival.

HIPAA Compliance & Patient Privacy

UTMB is committed to protecting patient privacy. Journalists must comply with all HIPAA regulations while reporting in UTMB facilities. Patient interviews, photography, or case‑specific information require written patient authorization and must be coordinated in advance through Media Relations. Unauthorized access to patient care areas or patient information is prohibited. Media Relations will coordinate all patient interviews and ensure appropriate consent is obtained.

Expert Interviews & Attribution

Media Relations facilitates access to UTMB experts and will advise on availability and appropriate attribution. Any embargoes, background information, or attribution requirements will be clearly communicated at the time materials are shared.
