Creating accessible, digital content is not just right thing to do, it's legally required and governed in a variety of ways:
Do I need to know the guidelines?
We all create digital content, so in a sense, yes. This website provides a consolidation and summary of the guidelines in an easy-to-understand and apply format which will be enough for most of the folks at UTMB.
However, if you're a in a specialized role, such as Application Developers / Programmers, Content Designers, Human Resources, etc., you'll need a more detailed understanding of specific guidelines and how they affect your work products. More technical content is part of the next phase of the UTMB Digital Accessibility Project.
Our program is continually growing with changes in guidelines and technology.
UTMB digital content strives to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA and Section 508 Requirements.
UTMB's contains training, playbooks, resources and tools to guide us in creating accessible content. It's important to remember that just like digital security, as applications and technology change; so will the requirements in creating accessible content. Digital accessibility is an on-going commitment and effort to create content with as few barriers as possible for our users.
