Bio-Tejo Musunuru

  • Dr. Tejo Musunuru was born in India and completed her schooling and medical school in India. She relocated to the USA in 2010 after receiving her MBBS degree from NTR University of Health Sciences, AP, India. She is a topper of the class for all her years of medical school and received a medal of excellence for this achievement.

    She completed rotations at various universities in the US to strengthen clinical skills and master the intricacies of the US health system. She then went on to complete her Residency in Internal Medicine in St. Louis, MO, which she considers her US hometown. She then joined the fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, and successfully completed this in 2019.

    After her fellowship, to balance her academic and clinical interests, Dr. Musunuru took up a job as an Assistant Professor in the Department of General Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. As a part of the position, she spends time at the League City MD Anderson Cancer Center and UTMB Galveston, treating hematology and oncology disorders, with a major focus on benign and malignant hematologic conditions. Dr. Musunuru holds a joint appointment in the Department of Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center and this helps with multidisciplinary collaboration in optimizing patient care for Leukemic patients.

    Dr. Musunuru finds immense joy in education and spends a significant amount of time teaching the UTMB medical students, and internal medicine residents and has been vital in the curriculum development for the hematology/oncology fellowship. She strives for high-quality, reliable, compassionate patient care and is actively involved in several Quality Improvement projects aimed at achieving this goal.

    Certified in Internal Medicine (2016), Hematology (2019), and Medical Oncology (2019), Dr. Musunuru brings her ever-improving expertise to the treatment of patients with blood disorders and cancers. Her research focus is the improvement of outcomes in patients with leukemias. Dr. Musunuru believes in being a lifelong learner and aims to decrease gaps in medical care and eliminate the socio-economic discrepancies in cancer care.
