Faculty Profile

  • Dr. Ajayi earned her medical degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos. She went on to complete her residency training in Internal Medicine at Abington-Jefferson Health in Pennsylvania. She furthered her training by undergoing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Universality of Cincinnati Medical Center, after this Dr Ajayi did further sub-specialty training by completing an additional fellowship focused on Transplant and Immunosuppressed Infectious Diseases at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Prior to joining the UTMB team, she served as an Attending physician with the Infectious Diseases department at Adventist Health- Oregon Health and Sciences University, where she provided specialized care to complex and diverse patient populations. She was also actively involved in the clinical training of medical students. Dr. Ajayi is a well-rounded and compassionate physician whose work has been recognized by the Richard C. Gozon Compassion in Medicine award and an Induction into the prestigious Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr Ajayi is also passionate about advancing clinical research, having earned a Graduate Certificate in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Ajayi has also authored several publications and abstracts in the field of Infectious diseases. Her research interests are diverse, some of her research endeavors have included studies on drug-resistant mould infections, treatment of COVID-19 in stem cell transplant recipients and tuberculosis screening in the emergency room settings. She is dedicated to integrating the latest advancements in the field of infectious diseases into the treatment plans for her patients. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Ajayi loves spending time with her husband and two children. She also loves reading and writing Christian-based fairy tales for children.
