“Urine Trouble: A Review of Bacteriuria & UTIs”


Objectives: At this conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the impact of antimicrobial resistance on individuals, communities, and the world.
  2. Use an evidence-based approach to treat patients with the main urinary syndromes (acute simple cystitis, complicated UTI, pyelonephritis, asymptomatic bacteriuria, and recurrent UTI).
  3. Practice judicious antimicrobial use (stewardship) in the treatment of UTIs and ASB.

Target Audience and Needs: Internal Medicine faculty, staff, registered nurses, residents, fellows, students, and internists specializing in Allergy & Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Medicine, Geriatrics, Hematology & Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, and Rheumatology need to be regularly updated with new research and guidelines regarding the evaluation and management of medical disorders and implement them in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods: Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Activity Evaluation: Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
