April 2023 DOM Monthly Newsletter

April 2023

Hello DOM-ers,

I hope you all are doing well.

Happy Ramadan (Ramadan Mubarak).

Lots of good stuff going on in the Department right now. Please watch our video to hear a bit about what I’m excited about as Chair. And….there’s a special request for how you can help make our Department even better.

A few other items:

  • A shout-out to Dr. Michael Nguyen in his role of Vice-Chair for Community Ambulatory Programs. Mike is doing a phenomenal job trying to share ideas, learnings, and challenges that are faced by those of us working in our ambulatory clinics, particularly at our mainland sites.
  • Recruitment: Want to improve our Department (yes, “our” department)? Do you have ideas for who we should hire? More researchers? More educators? More diversity? We need your help. How do you do this? Make a suggestion to your Division Chief or the appropriate Vice-Chair. Serve on a recruitment committee. I am committed to a transparent and democratic hiring process. Lean in, help out. All are welcome.
  • Professionalism: Did you know that UTMB has professionalism expectations? We do. See attached.

Finally, be sure to check out our new DOM communications. This includes a new website and a new DOM twitter feed.

Other stuff:

  • We encourage you to visit the DOIM Feedback and Suggestion Form (see button to the right). This will be open and available to each of you 24/7. Please utilize the form to help convey your thoughts.
  • We are always looking for news to highlight in our newsletter and weekly relays. Did something good happen in your life (birth, wedding, award)? Did a colleague achieve something newsworthy? Please email news and information to Rachel McClere at rlmccler@utmb.edu or simply click the Submit News and Information found to the right.
  • For other important features and highlights, please continue reading below.

    Thanks,
    Pete
