dedicated to the improvement of eye and ear health through research. We
foster new ideas and products in solution to the risks to vision and
hearing on earth and in extreme environments. We work to provide the
finest cutting edge treatment for ophthalmology and otolaryngology
Who We Are
The Eye and Ear Clinical Research Center is a multi- disciplinary team that integrates expertise in ophthalmology, otolaryngology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology and bioengineering to inspire cutting edge research. Our research examines current practices of care, new treatments, equipment, and methods to improve outcomes for ophthalmology and otolaryngology patients. We support investigations in clinical trials, multi-site research consortiums, investigator initiated trials and pre-clinical research. We collaborate with centers of expertise, including NASA, Duke, Columbia University, Jos Hospital Nigeria, Diabetic Retinopathy Research Network, CHEER (Creating Healthcare Excellence through Education and Research0 Network, Methodist Hospital. UTMB Department of Nephrology, United Molecule Inc., and Rhodium Scientific, in our efforts. We value teamwork and are passionate about providing superior research training and support for the next generation of students, residents, and fellows to benefit the future of eye and ear practice.
in 2007, the center is located in the Department of Ophthalmology and
Visual Sciences, on Galveston Island. We are located on the third floor
of the University Eye Clinic at, 700 University Blvd. Having a clinical
research center on site generates huge benefits for our Eye Center
patients and our faculty. Through the Eye and Ear Clinical Research Center, our doctors translate basic
research into clinical practice faster and more directly.
The Eye and Ear Clinical Research Center team of doctors, nurses, research coordinators, and photographers coordinate resources and efforts to conduct clinical trials in a professional and enthusiastic way to bring the latest treatments to our patients. Patient recruitment, study protocol adherence, patient examination and treatment, analysis of data and trial performance are managed centrally. The Department has basic science research facilities, the clinical research center, teaching facilities for up-to-date eye care methods, five eye centers and a dozen eye doctors in a wide range of specialties. That's what makes us strong. We have a complete research environment from research lab to patient care.
