Mukaila Raji

Dr. Mukaila Raji is Professor, Division Director, and George and Cynthia Mitchell Distinguished Chair in Geriatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. attended the medical school at the University of Ife in Nigeria. He also completed his internal medicine residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, USA, a Geriatric Fellowship at Duke University in Durham, NC, USA, and Master of Science Degree in Pharmacology at the University of Alberta in Canada. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Raji teaches students, residents, and geriatrics fellows and serves as attending faculty and consultant on the Acute Care for the Elders Unit, Geriatric Consults, and Geriatric Clinic Service.

His research focuses on geriatric pharmacology, health outcomes in Alzheimer’s disease, and clinical trials to improve functional recovery in older adults. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers [47 h-index, >8,000 Citations] in JAMA, Lancet, and other high-impact journals. He serves as Principal Investigator or Co-I on several NIH grants. His honors include John Sealy School of Medicine Excellence Award in Mentoring (2024), Sir William Osler Excellence in Clinical Teaching Awards (2006, 2018 & 2024), Senior Faculty Mentor of the Year (2022), Faculty Researcher Award (2022), Top Texas Physician Awards (Texas Super Doctors, 2013-2026), and Texas Super Doctor Hall of Fame.
