Faculty Profile

  • Dr. Willis earned his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine and completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Medical Oncology fellowship at UTMB. He is nationally recognized for his clinical and research leadership in lung cancer, breast cancer, head and neck malignancies, and hematologic disorders. Dr. Willis has served as Principal Investigator on numerous Phase I–III clinical trials and has published extensively in top-tier journals including JAMA Oncology and British Journal of Hematology. He also brings broad leadership experience as a former Program Director, Clinical Medical Director, and Director of Diversity. His many accolades include the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award and multiple Texas Monthly Super Doctor honors. In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Willis is deeply engaged in mentoring, community outreach, and global health missions. Outside of medicine, Dr. Willis is a father of two sons and a proud new grandfather. He enjoys sports, exercise, and spending time outdoors. He continues to coach little league football for the Galveston Hurricanes and frequently travels to Georgia to visit his siblings and work on farm projects at his family property. He also enjoys attending church at Live Oak Baptist Church in Galveston, where he serves as a Deacon.
