Faculty Profile

  • Dr. Khadija Tayabali earned her medical degree at University of Nairobi in Kenya where she is originally from. After graduating she worked in Bungoma District Hospital where she focused on patients with HIV/AIDS and co-infection with Tuberculosis in conjunction with PEPFAR group. After relocating to the United States in 2012, she completed internal medicine residency at followed by a Chief Resident year and then a year of Hospital medicine Infectious disease fellowship at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland which she completed in August 2024. She has now joined the faculty at University of Texas Medical Branch in October 2024 as a Clinical Instructor as well as a T32 Research Fellow. Her role is a hybrid between being active clinically, supervising doctors in training at Jennie Sealy Hospital and Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital as well as primarily working via the T32 program on her research interest in Antimicrobial Resistance and its impact on global health.
