Rheumatology

Clinical Experiences

  1. Continuity Clinic
    • Fellows work closely with our faculty rheumatologists to provide care to patients dealing with a diverse array of rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, gout, scleroderma, spondyloarthritis, vasculitis, myositis, Sjogren’s syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica, and osteoarthritis. They actively engage in patient care to gain insights into the long-term management of these conditions, fostering continuity of care for optimal patient outcomes.
    • Clinics are held at both Galveston (Primary Care Pavilion) and League City (Victory Lakes Town center) locations. *Please check back for updates as we expand to additional sites. *
  2. Texas Department of Criminal Justice Rheumatology Clinic
    • Fellows actively engage in the treatment of patients with rheumatic diseases within the Texas prison system, specifically at the TDCJ Hospital, which is an integral component of the UTMB medical complex.
  3. Clinical Electives
    • Fellows are encouraged to participate in clinical electives during their second year of fellowship. Examples of electives include Nephrology (Glomerulonephritis clinic), Endocrinology (Bone health clinic), Dermatology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Sports medicine, and Pain clinic.
  4. Consultation Service
    • Fellows play a pivotal role in providing consultation services to the inpatient services at John Sealy Hospital and the TDCJ Hospital at UTMB. Within this setting, they oversee the care of patients grappling with a diverse spectrum of complex rheumatologic diseases, including vasculitis, scleroderma, myositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, gout, and various other rheumatic conditions. Acting as leaders of multidisciplinary teams, fellows collaborate with medical students and internal medicine residents under the close supervision of faculty rheumatologists.
