Rheumatology

Fellowship Overview

Our UTMB Rheumatology fellowship program is fully accredited and spans two years, offering comprehensive training in the subspecialty. While traditionally admitting one fellow annually, our growing faculty base is expected to soon allow for adding an extra position.

The fellowship program is structured to provide a dynamic training experience. In the first year, fellows primarily focus on clinical duties in clinics and consult services, spanning Galveston and League City locations. In the second year, fellows transition into a leadership role, with increased elective opportunities in various subspecialties such as Nephrology (Glomerulonephritis clinic), Endocrinology (Bone health clinic), Dermatology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Sports medicine, and Pain clinic.

Mission Statement:

Our UTMB Rheumatology Fellowship Training is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders in the field of rheumatology. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and interdisciplinary training experience that fosters clinical excellence, scholarly inquiry, and compassionate patient care. Through mentorship, innovative research opportunities, and hands-on clinical experience, we aim to empower fellows to become proficient clinicians, critical thinkers, and advocates for advancing the understanding and treatment of a wide variety of rheumatic diseases. By nurturing a collaborative and supportive learning environment, we aspire to inspire our fellows to make meaningful contributions to the field of rheumatology and improve the lives of patients with rheumatic conditions.
