This summer, a cohort of 21 undergraduate scholars from across Texas gathered at UTMB to participate in the Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP). During this intensive three-week internship, advanced undergraduates with aspirations toward medical school received training in the foundational knowledge and skills needed to build a thoughtful and effective medical practice. The Bioethics and Health Humanities (BHH) Department is proud to continue our involvement in this outstanding program.

This year, BHH graduate students designed and led a series of interactive workshops introducing scholars to foundational concepts in bioethics, health humanities, and public health. Sessions included: a crash course on the four principles of bioethics paired with case-study analysis, an exploration of the historical and contemporary intersections of art and medicine, and a task force style simulation in which students collaborated to respond to a hypothetical public health crisis. These workshops complement the scholars' STEM-focused training by encouraging them to engage with interdisciplinary methods and perspectives.
