Purpose: To recognize students with outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to health care as a human service.


Endowment Title: The UTMB Alpha Eta Society Scholarship Fund
Donor Name: Institutional funds and cash from various donors.

Purpose: Scholarship support for full-time senior students in the School of Health Professions who are receiving either baccalaureate or graduate degrees and are members of the UTMB Chapter of Alpha Eta Society.


Endowment Title: M. Irma Alvarado, PhD, OT Scholarship

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the Masters of Occupational Therapy Program within the School of Health Professions. To qualify, the applicant must demonstrate financial need and maintain a good academic standing.

Donor Name: Auxiliary of Angleton Danbury

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in any of these three professional schools: School of Health Professions, School of Medicine and School of Nursing. Preference shall be given to students from Brazoria County, TX or to staff member at the Angleton-Danbury Campus, including clinics in Brazoria County, TX who are pursuing advanced degrees at UTMB in any of the three schools indicated above.

Purpose: Funds distributed shall be used to award scholarships to Clinical Laboratory Science students in good standing and who are enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference shall be given to students with financial need and educational and/or financial hardship.

Purpose: To promote scholarship and ease the financial burden of professional education and to honor Dr. Robert K. Bing, first dean of the UTMB School of Health Professions. Students must have (a) minimum 3.0 GPA in the OT program; (b) no course grades less than "C"; (c) no period of either academic or non-academic probation during enrollment in the SAHS; (d) be a member in good standing in the Texas Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Purpose: Scholarship award to a student in the distance education program.


Endowment Title: Charles H. and Pamela A. Christiansen Scholarship Endowment

Purpose: To award scholarships to incoming students in the School of Health Professions who have demonstrated financial need and academic promise. Additionally, preference for the scholarship should be given to students enrolled in the occupational therapy program who have demonstrated an active awareness of the importance of volunteerism to enhance communities.


Endowment Title: Edith and Emanuel Cohen/Evelyn A. Gerstein Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To award scholarship(s) of $500 or more to one or more outstanding students in the School of Health Professions who have demonstrated professionalism and potential for leadership. Preference shall be given to students participating in the Health Careers Opportunity Program Early Acceptance Project.


Endowment Title: Cultural Diversity Scholarship in honor of Johnette Meadows

Purpose: This scholarship, in tribute to Johnette Meadows, promotes the importance of cultural diversity in future physical therapy practice and recognizes future physical therapists for their commitment to cultural diversity, as demonstrated through academic, community and professional activities. The recipient of this award must be a full-time student in their third year of curriculum, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must be in good academic standing.


Endowment Title: The Ruby Decker Endowed Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Purpose: To sustain an annual academic scholarship for students enrolled in the graduate program of the Department of Physical Therapy. Recipients shall be selected through a process to be established by the Dean and Departmental Chairperson of the School of Health Professions


Endowment Title: Del Papa Distributing College Endowment

Purpose: The scholarship shall be used to recognize students who have distinguished themselves by their extraordinary academic achievement and have an established financial need. The scholarship will rotate each year between the five UTMB schools.

Purpose: To award scholarships to second year Physical Therapy students in good standing enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference will be given to students with an interest in acute care.

Purpose: To award a scholarship to qualified students in good standing, enrolled in a degree program in the School of Health Professions. Preference will be given to students with financial need, who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership ability, and a commitment to the University through school and community involvement.

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide an award to an occupational therapy student who demonstrates an interest in, and aptitude for, mental health practice.

Purpose: The Larry Feeler, PT, WorkSTEPS, Inc. Physical Therapy Scholarship in Memory of Walt Jones shall be a permanent endowment and shall be used for the benefit of the School of Health Professions at UTMB. Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to award scholarships to Physical Therapy students with financial need in the School of Health Professions.

Purpose: Funds will be used to provide scholarships for clinical laboratory sciences students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Preference shall be given to Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences students who have demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to the clinical laboratory profession through academic and professional involvement, and who demonstrate financial need.

Donor Name: Scholarship support for students committed to the practice of geriatric medicine and enrolled in or accepted in the School of Health Professions.

Endowment Title: The Thomas N. and Gleaves T. James Scholarship Endowment

Purpose: Funds shall be used for the payment of full tuition and tuition-related fees for an entire year of study for one or more full-time students enrolled in the SAHS and may be renewed. Scholarship to be awarded following matriculation to a student in good standing who demonstrates financial need and academic promise.


Endowment Title: M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Scholarship in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Purpose: To provide scholarship support to students attending either The Victoria College or Wharton County junior College who enter the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program at the U.T. Medical Branch at Galveston.

Purpose: To provide scholarships for full-time junior allied health students based upon their overall GPA in basic science courses; leadership in student government, professional and community organizations; research interest and involvement. Financial need will be evaluated for all applicants.

Purpose: To provide scholarship support for students in good standing in any of UTMB’s five schools, with a preference for disadvantaged students who are from underserved areas.

Purpose: To present an award to a student in the Physician Assistant Studies Program and an award to a student in the Medical Technology Program based on their academic excellence and chosen by respective departments.

Endowment Title: The Diane Doehne Rath Leadership Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarship support to students enrolled in the Physical Therapy program. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.5 or above, be involved in the community as exhibited through volunteerism or similar activities and has demonstrated positive leadership skills.

First Preference shall be given to students from one of the counties in the South Texas region, defined as the region south of San Antonio and those counties in between the southern and western boundary of the Rio Grande River and the eastern boundary of the Gulf of Mexico.

Purpose: The faculty in Occupational Therapy Department, with the approval and collaboration of the Dean of the School of Health Professions establish the criteria and award scholarships to as great a number of students as practical.

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for the greatest needs of students with academic excellence enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference shall be given to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the graduate degree program in the Department of Nutrition and Metabolism.
  • Demonstrate financial need and academic merit in accordance with UTMB requirements.
  • Commitment to working in under-served communities after obtaining his/her degree.
  • Actively involved in community service.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Recipient may be an entering student at UTMB or a returning student.

Purpose: Funds distributed from this scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate Clinical Laboratory Sciences student with a GPA or higher after 1 year of classes at UTMB. Preference will be given to students who have resided for the majority of their lifetime in the State of Texas.


Endowment Title: The Linda Lange Williams Memorial Scholarship in Physical Therapy
Donor Name: Cynthia Fisher, PT, DPT, MS, PCS

Purpose: Funds disbursed from this endowment will be awarded to outstanding second year Physical Therapy students in the School of Health Professions. Scholarship recipients must have documented financial need, be in good academic standing, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate a commitment to community and/or professional service.


Endowment Title: Susan and Gaddis Wittjen Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Purpose: To award scholarships to Physical Therapy students in good standing enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference will be given to students with financial need.


Endowment Title: The Edwin P. Womack and Jack Edwin Womack Scholarship Fund

Purpose: Funds from scholarship will be distributed to students in the SOM from West Columbia and/or Brazoria County, Texas shall be given preference for awards. Student shall be accepted to one of the professional schools at UTMB. The student shall have demonstrated financial need. Student shall maintain satisfactory academic standing.
