Endowment Title: Cecilia Garcia Akers Endowed Scholarship in Physical Therapy honoring Dr. and Mrs. Hector P. Garcia

Purpose: To recognize students with outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to health care as a human service.


Endowment Title: Daniel C. Allensworth Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies
Donor Name: Institutional Funds

Purpose: To sustain an annual academic scholarship for students enrolled in the Physician Assistant Studies Program.


Endowment Title: The UTMB Alpha Eta Society Scholarship Fund
Donor Name: Institutional funds and cash from various donors.

Purpose: Scholarship support for full-time senior students in the School of Allied Health Sciences who are receiving either baccalaureate or graduate degrees and are members of the UTMB Chapter of Alpha Eta Society.

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the Masters of Occupational Therapy Program within the School of Health Professions. To qualify, the applicant must demonstrate financial need and maintain a good academic standing.

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the BRIDGE Physical Therapy Program within the School of Health Professions. To qualify, the applicant must demonstrate financial need and maintain a good academic standing.


Endowment Title: Auxiliary of Angleton Danbury Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in any of these three professional schools: School of Health Professions, School of Medicine and School of Nursing. Preference shall be given to students from Brazoria County, TX or to staff member at the Angleton-Danbury Campus, including clinics in Brazoria County, TX who are pursuing advanced degrees at UTMB in any of the three schools indicated above.

Purpose: Funds distributed shall be used to award scholarships to Clinical Laboratory Science students in good standing and who are enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference shall be given to students with financial need and educational and/or financial hardship.


Endowment Title: Salah Ayachi Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies

Purpose: To award scholarships to Physician Assistant students in good standing enrolled in the School of Health Professions with preference given to those with financial need and educational and/or financial hardship. The student must be enrolled full-time, be in good academic standing, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate special interest in basic sciences, and demonstrate cross-cultural interests.

Purpose: For scholarships to student with outstanding academic excellence in Physical Therapy.


Endowment Title: Robert K. Bing Occupational Therapy Scholars Program
Donor Name: Robert K. Bing

Purpose: To promote scholarship and ease the financial burden of professional education and to honor Dr. Robert K. Bing, first dean of the UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences. Students must have (a) minimum 3.0 GPA in the OT program; (b) no course grades less than "C"; (c) no period of either academic or non-academic probation during enrollment in the SAHS; (d) be a member in good standing in the Texas Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.


Endowment Title: Beatrice Brotzman Endowed Presidential Scholarship

Purpose: Scholarship award to a student in the distance education program.


Endowment Title: Charles H. and Pamela A. Christiansen Scholarship Endowment
Donor Name: Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Christiansen

Purpose: To award scholarships to incoming students in the School of Allied Health Sciences who have demonstrated financial need and academic promise. Additionally, preference for the scholarship should be given to students enrolled in the occupational therapy program who have demonstrated an active awareness of the importance of volunteerism to enhance communities.


Endowment Title: Edith and Emanuel Cohen/Evelyn A. Gerstein Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Donor Name: Mr. and Mrs. Larry V. (Phyllis) Jendrusch

Purpose: To award scholarship(s) of $500 or more to one or more outstanding students in the School of Allied Health Sciences who have demonstrated professionalism and potential for leadership. Preference shall be given to students participating in the Health Careers Opportunity Program Early Acceptance Project.


Endowment Title: Harry and Joanne Davis Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies

Purpose: To provide scholarship support for two or more students enrolled in the Physician's Assistant Program in the School of Allied Health Sciences. Preference will be given to students with primary residence in Texas. Selection of the recipients shall be made by a committee appointed by the Dean and should be based on merit and high academic standards.


Endowment Title: The Ruby Decker Endowed Scholarship in Physical Therapy
Donor Name: UTMB Physical Therapy Alumni Association

Purpose: To sustain an annual academic scholarship for students enrolled in the graduate program of the Department of Physical Therapy. Recipients shall be selected through a process to be established by the Dean and Departmental Chairperson of the School of Allied Health Sciences


Endowment Title: Del Papa Distributing College Endowment

Purpose: The scholarship shall be used to recognize students who have distinguished themselves by their extraordinary academic achievement and have an established financial need. The scholarship will rotate each year between the four UTMB schools.


Endowment Title: Kay Hill Delgado Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Purpose: To award scholarships to second year Physical Therapy students in good standing enrolled in the School of Allied Health Sciences. Preference will be given to students with an interest in acute care.


Endowment Title: William T. Donoho Endowed Scholarship

Purpose: To award a scholarship to qualified students in good standing, enrolled in a degree program in the School of Allied Health Sciences. Preference will be given to students with financial need, who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership ability, and a commitment to the University through school and community involvement.


Endowment Title: Dulson Mental Health Award - OT

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide an award to an occupational therapy student who demonstrates an interest in, and aptitude for, mental health practice.


Endowment Title: Larry Feeler, PT, WorkSTEPS, Inc. Physical Therapy Scholarship in Memory of Walt Jones
Donor Name: Larry C. Feeler, Pres. & CEO, WorkSTEPS, Inc.

Purpose: The Larry Feeler, PT, WorkSTEPS, Inc. Physical Therapy Scholarship in Memory of Walt Jones shall be a permanent endowment and shall be used for the benefit of the School of Health Professions at UTMB. Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to award scholarships to Physical Therapy students with financial need in the School of Health Professions.


Endowment Title: Dr. Vicki S. Freeman "Pay It Forward" Scholarship in Clinical Laboratory Sciences
Donor Name: Dr. Vicki S. Freeman and Major Steven V. Freeman

Purpose: Funds will be used to provide scholarships for clinical laboratory sciences students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Preference shall be given to Doctorate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences students who have demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to the clinical laboratory profession through academic and professional involvement, and who demonstrate financial need.


Endowment Title: The Edgar and Grace Gnitzinger Endowed Scholarship Fund
Donor Name: Scholarship support for students committed to the practice of geriatric medicine and enrolled in or accepted in the School of Allied Health Sciences.

Purpose: Institutional funds


Endowment Title: The Thomas N. and Gleaves T. James Scholarship Endowment
Donor Name: School of Allied Health Sciences Development account

Purpose: Funds shall be used for the payment of full tuition and tuition-related fees for an entire year of study for one or more full-time students enrolled in the SAHS and may be renewed. Scholarship to be awarded following matriculation to a student in good standing who demonstrates financial need and academic promise.


Endowment Title: M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Scholarship in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Purpose: To provide scholarship support to students attending either The Victoria College or Wharton County junior College who enter the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program at the U.T. Medical Branch at Galveston.

Purpose: To provide scholarships for full-time junior allied health students based upon their overall GPA in basic science courses; leadership in student government, professional and community organizations; research interest and involvement. Financial need will be evaluated for all applicants.

Purpose: Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to provide scholarships for the greatest needs of students with academic excellence enrolled in the School of Health Professions. Preference shall be given to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in the graduate degree program in the Department of Nutrition and Metabolism.
  • Demonstrate financial need and academic merit in accordance with UTMB requirements.
  • Commitment to working in under-served communities after obtaining his/her degree.
  • Actively involved in community service.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Recipient may be an entering student at UTMB or a returning student.
