Students are randomly selected for verification by the Department of Education. The ISIR that Enrollment Services receives is flagged depending on what type of verification they were selected for. Students must submit verification and pass the verification process prior to aid being disbursed. Aid may be awarded, but a control has been set up to restrict disbursement if verification has not been completed. There is no deadline for submission of forms other than the end of the semester for which they are applying.
Students are notified via email if they have been flagged for verification and are instructed to view their "To Do List" in mySTAR to determine what they need to submit to our office. If it is determined that a correction to the FAFSA is required, an email will be sent to the student informing them about what needs to be changed and that it is their responsibility to make that change. If there are changes to their award, they will receive an email notification that a new award letter is available for them to view.
If our office suspects that fraudulent information has been reported, we will collect the documentation to support the suspicion and contact the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the Dallas office, (214) 661-9530.
FAFSA/RENEWAL FAFSA: Make sure all tax documents have been completed prior to filing.
The use of the IRS Data Retrieval Tool is a requirement that will ensure the accuracy of tax reporting information and eliminate the need for submission of student/spouse or parents individual tax returns to the school for verification. If you or your parents have not already used the tool, go to FAFSA.gov log in to the student’s FAFSA record, select “Make FAFSA Corrections,” and navigate to the Financial Information section of the form. From there, follow the instructions to determine if the you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer 2015 IRS income tax information into your FAFSA. It takes up to two weeks for IRS income information to be available for the IRS Data Retrieval Tool for electronic IRS tax return filers, and up to eight weeks for paper IRS tax return filers.
