This year’s SECC Campaign Chair Todd Leach, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, accompanied by a cast of characters from the “Wizard of Oz”, kicked off the annual fundraising effort at Moody Medical Library Plaza on Oct. 28.

The SECC campaign provides an opportunity for state employees to support their favorite charities and help improve the quality of life for people in communities served by UTMB. Last year, the statewide campaign raised and donated more than $9 million for charitable organizations. Of that amount—raised by all Texas public universities, colleges and state agencies—almost $470,000 came from UTMB Health employees.

In the Galveston area alone, generous giving by UTMB employees has amounted to about half of all money raised for local and regional charities. This year, UTMB hopes to raise at least $500,000 and reach at least 30% participation across the institution. The campaign runs through Dec. 5.
