UTMB opened first state-funded hospital for African-Americans in Texas

Continuing coverage: A philanthropist, a university and a community came together to open the first state hospital for African-Americans in Texas. In 1902 the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston opened the first state-subsidized “Negro” hospital.
