File Setup & Sizing

  • Choosing the Right Poster Size

Consider the following when determining your poster size:

    • Event or conference size requirements
    • How your poster will be mounted or displayed
    • The maximum printable height supported by the UTMB Print Shop is 42 inches, with any length available.
  • Creating Your Own Poster File

You may design your poster in any program that can produce a high-quality PDF. The preferred programs are:

    • Microsoft PowerPoint
    • BioRender
    • Any software capable of exporting a press-quality PDF
  • Using BioRender

If using BioRender, export your final file as a 300 dpi PDF and submit that file directly. Do not place the BioRender PDF into PowerPoint and export it again—doing so reduces quality and may cause pixelated text or graphics.

  • Using PowerPoint for Poster Design

PowerPoint works well for large-format posters, but setup is critical.

Set Your Page Size Before Designing
    • Go to: File → Page Setup → Slides sized for → Custom
    • Enter the exact page dimensions for your desired poster size.

Changing the page size after placing text and images may distort everything on the slide.

    PowerPoint Size Limitations

PowerPoint’s maximum page size is 56" × 56". For posters larger than this, you must design at a reduced, proportional size and the print shop team will enlarge it during printing.
