The Graduate School of Biomedical Science (GSBS) is pleased to highlight alumnus, John E. Wolf, Jr., MD, MA. Dr. Wolf currently serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Wolf received his MA degree in Anatomy and MD with high honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He subsequently completed a medical internship at Cornell University/Bellevue Hospital in New York City before serving two years as a Peace Corps physician in the Micronesian Islands. Dr. Wolf completed additional training as a senior registrar at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, a dermatology resident at the University of California - San Francisco, and a fellow in tropical dermatology in Guadalajara.

Dr. Wolf received an NIH training grant position at UTMB and has combined basic and clinical research with clinical medicine throughout his career. His research has focused primarily on cutaneous pharmacology and angiogenesis, along with numerous clinical studies. Dr. Wolf has authored more than 170 publications and delivered more than 1,000 professional lectures, including presentations in nearly 30 countries. He has delivered several named lectures, including The Ruch Lecture at The University of Rochester, The Sulzberger Lecture to The San Francisco Dermatology Society, and The Calvin J. DiJatta Lecture to the Arkansas Dermatology Society. He has also participated in many radio, television and print media interviews, including The Wall Street Journal and NBC’s The Today Show. Additionally, Dr. Wolf has made numerous presentations on the history of medicine, including addresses at The Tulane University Medical History Society, The American Association for Medical History, and The Chauncy Leake Society Lecture in Galveston.

Dr. Wolf is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Houston’s Health Museum, The Friends of Fondren Library (Rice), and The Shepherd Society (Rice), and is President of The Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library. He has also served on the board of the Association of Rice Alumni. Dr. Wolf is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and has had numerous listings in Best Doctors in Houston and the United States. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the GSBS Associates, the GSBS alumni organization. Congratulations to Dr. Wolf on being selected for this 50th Anniversary Alumni Spotlight!
