Body Imaging Division
The Body Imaging Division at UTMB Radiology brings together a team of fellowship-trained radiologists with subspecialty expertise in imaging the abdominal and pelvis organs. Our faculty are recognized for their diagnostic expertise across a broad range of conditions including oncologic, inflammatory, traumatic, pre surgical and post-surgical disorders of the abdomen as well as pelvis and vascular disease involving the extremities.
Members of the division routinely utilize a comprehensive range of imaging modalities including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, computed tomography( CT), and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Faculties have expertise in advanced imaging techniques and dedicated protocols including MR and CT enterorrhaphy, MRI for the evolution of endometriosis, dedicated oncologic MRI and CT protocols, imaging of transplant donor and recipient, and dedicated ultrasounds and procedures including liver elastography and saline hysterosalpingogram. Our faculties also have extensive experience in ultrasound evaluation of thyroid and parathyroid disorders and work closely with endocrinologists and otolaryngologists.
The division maintain close collaboration with specialized medical and surgical services and interventional radiology colleagues. Our faculty actively participate in multidisciplinary conferences including urology, gastrointestinal and gynecology tumor bard and nonmalignant pancreaticobiliary conference. These collaborative efforts facilitate individualized, evidence based care and support optimal outcomes for our patients.
The diverse patient populations served across UTMB geographically distributed campuses as well as patients cared for through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice provide our faculties and trainees with unique broad exposure to a wide spectrum of disease processes. In particular, UTMB serves large population of patients at increased risk for hepatocellular carcinoma( HCC), Providing valuable experience in HCC surveillance, diagnostic imaging and treatment planning. Trainees rotate through the body Imaging Division and participate in imaging interpretation and procedural care under direct faculty supervision, gaining broad experience across both academic and community-based patient populations.
The Body Imaging Division supports UTMB academic mission through ongoing scholarly activity, research and evaluation of emerging imaging techniques. Our faculty are committed to advancing the field of body imaging while providing outstanding clinical care and educating the next generation of radiologists.
