The
UTMB Breast Imaging section of Radiology is a comprehensive
program that offers new and innovative advances in Women's Imaging. Our
extensive Breast Imaging practice performs mammography,
ultrasonography, & MRI and we are pleased to offer state of the art
breast interventional procedures including Stereotactic core biopsies
and MRI guided biopsies. In addition, we are in the process of
implementing molecular breast imaging as an adjunct to mammography in
appropriate cases.
The UTMB Radiology Department has been
accredited by the American College of Radiology which a peer-reviewed,
educationally focused evaluation is assuring the highest level of image
quality and safety. In addition, our Breast Imaging Center has been
designated as a Center of Excellence by the American College of
Radiology which is an honor that has only been bestowed on 13 Breast
Imaging facilities in the state of Texas.
We are staffed by two specialized Breast
Imaging Radiologists who are Board Certified through the American Board
of Radiology and bilingual in Spanish. In addition, we are staffed by
seven Mammography Technicians,Patient Navigators and a QA/QC
Coordinator.
Our multidisciplinary approach to breast
health incorporates physicians from the Surgery, Obstetrics &
Gynecology, and Medical Oncology Departments in an effort to continue
offering the highest quality of care to our patient population. We are
also pleased to serve Galveston County by offering screening mammograms
through our mobile van unit.
Our professional and experienced Mammographers
are dedicated to providing exceptional care in a patient-centered
environment. Our commitment to education is reinforced through our one
year Breast Imaging Fellowship and we have increased our patient
accessibility by offering self-referral mammograms and Breast Imaging
services through our Galveston Island and Victory Lakes (League City,
Texas) clinics.
The Komen Complete Care Project at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston provides comprehensive services for under-served women.
Since 2004, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has
received annual grant funding from The Houston Affiliate of Susan G.
Komen for the Cure® to provide comprehensive breast health services to
under-served and uninsured women in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend,
Galveston, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties.
