UTMB John Sealy School of Medicine MATCH Day 2026 — March 20th, 2026

About Match Day

At UTMB and medical schools across the country, Match Day is an event anticipated with excitement and suspense. On the third Friday of March each year, the nation's graduating medical students learn where they will be training for their residencies, and in what field of specialty, in a process administered by the National Resident Matching Program. At UTMB's John Sealy School of Medicine, it's a celebration rich with tradition and shared with family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens on Match Day?

The event will begin with a continental breakfast, providing time for students to mingle with friends and family, take photos, and collect various goodies. The ceremony will commence promptly at 10:30 am, featuring brief remarks from JSSOM leadership. Finally, at 11 am, you will open your envelopes to find out where you have matched.

  • How will I receive my envelope?

You will receive your envelope upon entering the Levin Hall Auditorium. Please take your envelope to your seat and wait for the countdown at 11 am.

Please do NOT open your envelope until you are instructed.

For students matched through the military or other early matches, your envelope will contain a congratulatory note with your results, as we do not receive a formal notification letter. If you ranked a prelim spot through the NRMP, your envelope will contain the NRMP letter.

  • Can I bring guests to Match Day?

Students are welcome to invite close family or significant others to the celebration. Due to space limitations, please be mindful when inviting guests. Of course, if you would rather not bring guests, that is also an option. We understand this is a significant moment and you may prefer to review your match results privately.

  • What should I wear to Match Day?

Many treat the Match Day ceremony as a graduation. It is a monumental moment in your journey to becoming a physician. Most students opt for business casual attire such as slacks, nice shirts, skirts, or dresses.

  • Where should we park?

Free parking is available starting at 8:00 am within Garage 3 and Garage 4 (1215 Strand). Paid public parking is available in Garage 8- Hospital/Plaza Garage (200 University Blvd.) and Garage 2 UHC/ER (1000 Harborside, behind Old Red).

  • How can I continue the celebration?

There will be multiple photo opportunities available on Match Day. We will also provide “I Matched” posters and markers for students to personalize after the ceremony. We encourage you to share celebratory messages, photos, and videos using the hashtag #UTMBMatch2026. Follow along to see all the celebrations!
