AAMC – ERAS Fee Assistance Program: Per recent email from David J. Skorton, MD, AAMC President and CEO: “In 2024, the AAMC will extend our Fee Assistance Program to residency applicants using the Electronic Residency Application Service^® (ERAS^®). This expansion will offer financial relief to medical students and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting our learners from premed through residency and beyond. In developing the expansion of this critical program, we have worked closely with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and actively sought input from medical students, residents, medical school leaders, student affairs deans, advisors, and the AAMC Board of Directors. Starting in 2024 with the 2024-2025 ERAS application season, the program will expand to include residency applicants who were previously approved for Fee Assistance Program benefits during their medical school application process. These qualifying applicants will automatically receive a 60 percent fee discount on up to 50 ERAS applications, significantly alleviating the financial burden associated with the application process.”

Q: How do I get started?

A: Your first stop for answers and planning should be your Career Advisor. You will have the same advisor throughout your third and fourth years. Your advisor will help you stay on track and ensure that you ‘check off’ each milestone on your Match Scorecard.
Q: I need to explore my specialty options, how do I do that?

A: Talk to your Career Advisor, then check out Careers in Medicine Residency Explorer, FREIDA, and Texas Star in the links below. Look through the Key Specialty Points of Contact for our senior faculty that have made themselves available to answer questions and offer advice.
Q: I’m competitive and I know I’ll match; do I need to know about SOAP?

A: Yes, all students should be knowledgeable about the supplemental process irrespective of competitiveness. Life is full of surprises.
Q: I know I do not have interpersonal or communication issues, do I still need to conduct a mock interview?

A: Yes, it is highly recommended that everyone completes a mock interview. Match is extremely competitive, anything you can do to improve your skills and make a better impression should be done. Your interviewer may notice something you missed. Reach out to your Career Advisor or ASCC specialist to schedule one.
