Physician Assistants

  • Licensed to practice medicine and provide a wide range of healthcare diagnostic and treatment services with physician supervision.
  • Conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and write prescriptions.
  • Specialize in areas like emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, etc. after completing a core group of educational requirements.
  • Work in hospitals, clinics, physician offices, nursing homes, and other healthcare environments.

Job Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Physician Assistants (PA) was projected to grow by 37% from 2016 to 2026. A 2015 American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) study found that more than 96% would recommend their PA career to others. U.S. News & World Report reports that in 2020, the median salary for PAs is $115,390.
