Congratulations on your acceptance to the John Sealy School of Medicine, Class of 2030!

We know that it has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get to this point and for that, we applaud your accomplishment. We in the JSSOM Office of Student Affairs & Admissions, along with the John Sealy School of Medicine faculty, are committed to working with you to ensure that you succeed in your academic and professional goals. Please know that our doors are always open to you.

You should have received a formal letter of acceptance via the AMP portal. Please carefully read through this letter and complete all of the requirements for matriculation described.

To ensure you matriculation, please use the checklist on this page to complete all requirements by the specified dates, and before you arrive for New Student Orientation.

Check List

  1. Go to the AMP portal and accept the position. Any questions related to AMP should be directed to the Admissions and Recruitment office, somadmis@utmb.edu.
  2. Set up your mySTAR account, you will receive instructions for this process within five business days of your admission offer. Any questions related to mySTAR or your UTMB email address should be directed to the Enrollment Services office, enrollment.services@utmb.edu.
  3. All final transcripts must be submitted directly to the Enrollment Services office by July 15th.
    Additional information regarding transcript requests will provided by the Enrollment Services office. Any questions related to transcripts should be directed to enrollment.services@utmb.edu.
  4. Complete the Texas Department of Criminal Justice form and submit the completed form as a PDF, along with a copy of your Social Security card and Driver's License, to somadmis@utmb.edu by July 1st. Please review the sample TDCJ Form to ensure you are completing the form correctly. Any questions related to the TDCJ form or clearance should be directed to the Admissions and Recruitment office, somadmis@utmb.edu.
  5. All entering students must complete a background check and drug screen within 90 days prior to the start of their term. Students will receive a CastleBranch evite at their UTMB student email by June, this requirement must be completed by July 15th. Any questions related to the CastleBranch background check and drug screen should be directed to the Admissions and Recruitment office, somadmis@utmb.edu.
  6. All entering students are required to submit proof of immunizations. Upload supporting documentation using the Immunization Information Tile in mySTAR by August 1st. Please click here for the Immunization Requirements. Please begin this process early to ensure you are in compliance in time for matriculation*. Any questions related to immunizations requirement should be directed to the Student Health office, shcemail@utmb.edu.
  7. All incoming students must complete BLS Certification and submit proof of their card to somadmis@utmb.edu. The expiration must be August 2027 or later. Proof must be submitted before August 3, 2026. Any questions related to BLS certification requirement should be directed to the Admissions and Recruitment office, somadmis@utmb.edu.
  8. All students needing on-campus parking must purchase it before arriving to campus. Purchase parking at utmb.parklpr.com, you will need your UTMB credentials to login. You may find additional information here. Any questions related to parking should be directed to the parking office for questions at parking@utmb.edu or (409) 266-PARK.
  9. Complete the Field House Release Form (Word Document) and mail it to the UTMB Alumni Field House address listed on the bottom of the form.
    This is only a requirement for students that want to utilize the Field House. Any questions related to the Field House should be directed to almfldhs@utmb.edu.
  10. Review JSSOM Student Computer Requirements. Please review the JSSOM Student Computer Requirements by July 20th. Any questions related to the JSSOM student computer requirements should be directed to the Instruction Management Office, som.imo@utmb.edu.
  11. All entering students must complete an online orientation in addition to the in-person orientation activities. You will receive an email from the Office of Student Life with additional information. This step must be completed before in-person orientation. Any questions related to the required online orientation should be directed to the Student Life office, studentlife@utmb.edu.
  12. Review Tuition and Fee Payment Information. Any questions regarding tuition should be directed to the Enrollment Services office, enrollment.services@utmb.edu. Any questions regarding financial aid should be directed to the Financial Aid department, sfinaid@utmb.edu.
  13. Find Housing – Although UTMB does not offer student housing, Student Life has created an online forum to assist UTMB students seeking roommates/housing. Any questions related to the housing forum should be directed to the Student Life office, studentlife@utmb.edu.
  14. View Orientation dates and FAQs. Any questions related to orientation should be directed to the Admissions and Recruitment office, somadmis@utmb.edu.
