  • 2022 UTMB Faculty Mentor of the Year Award Nominations

    The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to request nominations for the 2022 UTMB Faculty Mentor of the Year Award!  This award is bestowed upon an Internal Medicine Faculty Mentor who demonstrates a model for integrity and professionalism 

  • Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women

    Call for Nominations

    Internal Deadline:  September 16, 2022

    The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women will open its call for applications on October 1, 2022. ELAM is a unique yearlong part-time leadership development program designed to increase the numbers of women faculty in senior leadership positions, as executives and change agents in schools of medicine, dentistry, public health, and pharmacy. 

    The program seeks candidates who have:

    • Rank of at least associate professor in an academic institution for at least two (2) years
    • Administrative experience in personnel and budget management
    • A clear trajectory for administrative advancement

    Applicants must be able to attend all three (3) educational sessions (6-7 days each):

    September 9-15, 2023, January 20-25, 2024, April 13-18, 2024, in Philadelphia, PA.


    To submit your application for consideration, please send the following information by 5 p.m., September 16, 2022, to Kirk Nealy, kdnealy@utmb.edu

    • Candidate’s statement of what you intend to derive as a benefit from the program
    • Current CV
    • Letter of support from your chair/direct supervisor
    • Letter from senior colleague (preferably outside your home department)

    Financial support for the program fee and travel expenses for one (1) fellow will be provided by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.

  • Vice-Chair for Community Clinical Programs

    We will be looking both internally and externally for outstanding candidates for 2 new roles: 1) VC for Inpatient Community Clinical Programs; 2) VC for Outpatient Clinical Programs.  These crucial leadership roles are designed to improve clinical operations and coordination between our mainland clinical sites and our Island campus operations.  Please feel free to self-nominate, nominate others, and forward to people who might be interested in these roles.   • Division Chief for Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology
    We are launching a search for our next Division Chief for Rheumatology, Allergy/Immunology. Please feel free to self-nominate, nominate others, and forward to people who might be interested.
  • Associate Program Director for IM Residency Program

    Final call for application submissions if interested in this position for our Internal Medicine residency program. This position comes with a protected FTE of 0.2. APD’s are expected to assist with the following: 1) Residency recruitment 2) Clinical competency committees and program evaluation committee 3) Coaching and mentoring a certain number of residents as well as conducting their semi-annual interventions 4) Attending residency wide events and morning report when able 5) Implementation of other curricula, initiatives as needed 6) Attending weekly leadership meeting on Thursday afternoons. Please note APD’s can be a member of any division.
