Infectious Disease

Program Leadership

Our infectious diseases fellowship program is led by Dr. Juan Carlos Sarria. A member of the UTMB faculty for nearly 20 years, he has served as Program Director since 2008. Since that time, the fellowship program has consistently maintained ACGME accreditation while producing dozens of successful infectious diseases physicians, many of which have built productive academic careers across the United States and beyond. More recently, the program has undergone significant expansion, launched advanced training opportunities including a T32 track, and built a teaching service at the League City Campus. We look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence into the future as we evolve and expand!

Serving alongside our Program Director, Dr. Sarria, is our Associate Program Director, Dr. Patrik Hornak .  As a recent graduate of both UTMB's internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship, Dr. Hornak is excited to contribute to the ongoing success and mission of our training program.  As part of his APD role, he is actively engaged in various curricular initiatives, longitudinal recruitment strategies, and medical education scholarship.
