Welcome to UTMB Internal Medicine! Our mission is to develop a patient-centered and intellectually curious group of diverse physicians through a supportive learning environment dedicated to high-quality, evidence-based care.
At UTMB, your clinical training will be exceptional, and we are dedicated to your professional and personal growth. We offer flexible clinical training for physicians planning any desired pathway - whether it is an academically oriented career, a medical subspecialty fellowship, a hospitalist career, or general primary care. Residents will not only engage in first-class patient care within Jennie Sealy Hospital, a tertiary care center, but will also spend time in the 110-bed Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital, which complements the clinical experience tremendously. In addition to our categorical track, we are home to the Aerospace Medicine combined specialty training program in partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) - the only such program in the United States. Additionally, we offer the community medicine track, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) research pathway, a combined IM-Ophthalmology program, and a traditional preliminary medicine year. Our residents present at regional and national meetings, successfully obtain fellowship positions and become leaders in the community and academic medical centers.
Life in Galveston is really the best of both worlds. Our residents have the opportunity to train at a prominent academic institution as well as the chance to enjoy 32 miles of relaxing beaches, superb restaurants, top resort hotels, marvelous downtown shopping, incredible art galleries, and fabulous entertainment and activities in the city of Galveston.
Ultimately, it is UTMB's diverse patient population, engaging faculty, unique combined programs, and family-friendly atmosphere that make this program an ideal location to train. We are proud to train the internists of the future and excited to share our innovative program with you! If you have any questions about our program or community, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lindsay Sonstein
