Simulation

Our residents rotate through our state-of-the-art simulation center to learn procedures such as central lines, paracentesis, lumbar punctures, and joint injections. In addition, we have a robust simulation curriculum for ACLS/mock codes. This simulation allows for active participation in a controlled setting with debriefing to improve the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

POCUS

Point of Care ultrasoundPoint-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has been an elective for our upper-level residents for many years. We have a dedicated Butterfly ultrasound that they use to discover ultrasound findings on admitted patients. These residents often assist our inpatient teams with procedures throughout the month they are on elective.

We have partnered with the Emergency Medicine (EM) Residency faculty members to create a dedicated POCUS experience for all interns. Interns will spend two weeks working with EM faculty in the emergency department as well as with ultrasound and echocardiography technicians to obtain hands-on experience and learn appropriate techniques.

Our inpatient teams have access to portable Butterfly ultrasounds as well as more advanced ultrasounds on the units to utilize during procedures. Our residents graduate with sufficient experience in central lines, paracentesis, and lumbar punctures.
