The Institute for Translational Sciences (ITS) Clinical Research Center (CRC) is a 24/7 unit located on 5C/D in John Sealy Hospital at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. In mid-July, the CRC will move to the newly renovated 5th floor of the Waverly Smith Pavilion that is centrally located between Jennie and John Sealy Hospitals. Since 1963, UTMB has performed high-quality human subject research in the ITS-CRC, which provides critical resources to investigators throughout the lifespan of their projects. The ITS-CRC provides an environment for conducting complex Phase I – Phase IV clinical trials including PI-initiated and industry studies. Many studies involve pharmacokinetics or research in special populations and orphan diseases. The ITS-CRC provides comprehensive services including in-patient and exam rooms, nursing, bionutrition, core laboratory, exercise and special procedure rooms, and state-of-the-art metabolic equipment. To ensure best practices, we also provide hands-on training and access to specialized mentoring. Our clinical research practicum provides an opportunity for researchers and their staff to practice the skills covered in UTMB’s clinical research training. The practicum offers training in a one-on-one or small group, collaborative setting. Participants will have the opportunity to role-play and review essential research functions.
Services provided by the ITS-CRC are made possible by continued support from UTMB, Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and the implementation of a cost recovery program. We use revenue to maintain service levels and provide training and resources to clinical investigators and research teams. It is important that you meet with our ITS-CRC team to review your proposed study and get an estimate of charges to include in your budget. Please contact Liz Ruiz at email@example.com
