UTMB School of Medicine students may participate in the Translational Research Track which offers a variety of ways to enroll within the track. Students will have the opportunity to participate in Problem-Based Learning groups in which they will work with HPTM graduate students.
This track features:
Interprofessional team building with graduate students.
- Students will develop skills of collaboration and teamwork, through a number of courses,seminars, and enrichment activities involving students in the Human Pathophysiology and Translational Medicine (HPTM) graduate program.
Opportunity to design and execute translational research projects in multidisciplinary teams.
- By participating in an intensive translational research design course during the summer between years 1 and 2, students will obtain the necessary conceptual skills for conducting translational research. They will also identify mentors for projects for their research electives in years 3 and 4.
Active and inquiry-based learning.
- Instruction features problem-based learning, guided inquiry, and small group instructional methods, which recapitulate and model the scientific method. Learning sessions aim to promote independent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and skills for autonomous life-long learning.
Preparation for further professional development in academic medicine.
- Graduates will be very competitive for additional training pathways, including academic residency programs, Honors Thesis Program, Masters in Medical Sciences Program,Masters in Public Health, or Clinical Science Graduate Program.
