INSTITUTE FOR TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCES Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Pilot Grants

The Institute for Translational Sciences encourages researchers to submit pilot project proposals aimed at: developing new quantitative methodologies that can be applied to biomedical research or applying existing methods in novel ways to address translational research problems. Research areas of interest include biostatistics, epidemiology, and bioinformatics. An award of $20,000 is available to support an innovative pilot project.
 
Who should apply?

UTMB employees or graduate students with strong analytical backgrounds may submit one application (as PI) for the current funding cycle. Priority will be given to collaborative projects, including those: involving team members from multiple departments or schools, pairing basic scientists with clinicians, and engaging both senior and junior investigators. Proof of applicable CITI or animal care and use training is required for all team members.

What support is provided?

Up to 12 months of funding with no carry forward. Pre-award costs and faculty salaries are NOT allowed. Awards may pay for software, hardware, databases, and analyst effort.

Late applications, incomplete applications, and applications not following the specified format will not be reviewed.
