Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch. It is an honor to serve as Chair of this world-class department. Our mission is to provide outstanding, evidence-based, family-centered, and accessible care that not only treats but nurtures the children we serve, ensuring they and their communities thrive. In today’s world, challenges to children's health and access to care are increasingly shaped by social determinants that cannot be ignored. Influenza Alert Fall 2018

Oct 1, 2018, 00:00 AM by Janak A. Patel, MD

Influenza Alert

The flu season is already here. UTMB clinics and hospitals have identified several cases of flu this season, however, this is still at a sporadic level in our community.

There is still sufficient time to vaccinate your clinic patients as well as healthcare employees before the flu outbreak expands further. Flu vaccination should not wait till later in the season. Last flu season was one of the worst encountered in our recent memory. The severity of flu this season cannot be predicted, but it is likely to be less severe.
