Children's Health Service Gastroenterology

The department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition help children with disorders of the digestive system. We care for children with a variety of disorders including:
- Abdominal pain
- Reflux
- Liver Diseases
- Feeding Disorders
- Constipation
- Vomiting
- Short gut syndrome
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Celiac Disease
- Eosinophilic Esophagitis
- Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Our multidisciplinary team includes two physicians, a registered dietician, an endoscopy tech, and a dedicated clinic nurse. We have state-of-the-art equipment to provide diagnostic and therapeutic alternatives to our patients. Procedures are typically
performed in the outpatient surgical center at UTMB Clear Lake Hospital with either general anesthesia or moderate sedation. Common procedures include:
- Upper endoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Esophageal pH impedance probe testing
- Breath test hydrogen analysis
- Polyp removal
- Foreign body removal
- Gastrointestinal bleeding interventions
- Esophageal dilations
- Liver biopsy
Additionally, we provide inpatient consultations for children admitted to the John Sealy Children’s Hospital and UTMB Health Clear Lake Hospital. We work closely with other hospital and clinic staff including dieticians, social workers, counselors,
as well as endoscopy staff to provide well rounded, patient centered care for your child.
