Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County

The UTMB Department of Pediatrics Child Health, Safety and Prevention Team is a group of pediatricians and child health specialists who work closely with organizations such as the Advocacy Center for Children of Galveston County. This UTMB team of specialist coordinate the assessment and care of children who are victims of maltreatment.

The Advocacy Center is a child-friendly organization staffed with trained professionals who interview victims or witnesses and provide coordination of medical evaluations. Their group of specialist conduct meetings between other agencies, such as law enforcement, who aid in the investigative process and provide timely intervention and disposition. They also provide crisis therapy for child victims and non-offending family members, along with other important information and referral sources. The Advocacy Center can provide training and education for professionals and the community.
