Day in the Life of a Resident at Home

Our Internal Medicine residency program is defined by our collegiality. Residents can build lasting friendships during their time in residency, and our graduates continue to keep in touch well beyond their time in residency. In addition, we pride ourselves on being a very warm, family-friendly program.

To foster these relationships, we offer year-round gatherings as described below.

Fun at Work
Work is easier when you work with friends! On nights, our residents often watch movies or TV shows together in the lounge or engage in a Super Smash Brothers challenge! Also, Gold Team (an inpatient general medicine rotation in TDCJ) with Dr. Boyars is a resident favorite for themed rounding days!
Fun on and off the Island
Residents often get together outside of work to explore local breweries and restaurants and attending local festivals like Mardi Gras, Art Walk, and Dickens on the Strand.
Intern Welcome Party
Current residents and faculty welcome the new intern class to UTMB with a picnic and Olympic style competition between Daniels, Powell, and Remmers team. This event is hosted at one of our faculty’s homes to allow for a chance for faculty and residents to bond.
Halloween Party
Costumes and pumpkin-carving are staples at this October event. Some years our annual Halloween party takes place at a faculty’s home while other years, we have gone bowling!
Holiday Party
Every December, residents and faculty are invited to celebrate the holidays together with a formal dinner and White Elephant!
Graduation
A formal event to honor our preliminary interns and graduating PGY-3 residents.
