School-Based Clinics

In 1985 a group of Galveston physicians gathered to consider ways to address the special health care needs of adolescents in our community. They gathered several partners, including UTMB, and established the Teen Health Center, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, to provide school-based health care to area youth. UTMB continues to partner with the Teen Health Center, Inc. to strengthen the health and well-being of Galveston’s youth through easily accessible, school-based care.

Dr. Richard Rupp (Professor, Director Adolescent Medicine, Director of Island Pediatrics) serves as Teen Health's Medical Director. Dr. Beth Auslander (Professor, Department of Pediatrics) serves as Teen Health's Mental Health Director. Four physician assistants manage clinics at Ball High School, Central Middle School, and the Moody Early Childhood Center. Galveston residents who are 21 years or younger are welcome to make an appointment at any of these clinics. Click here for more information.
