Rewarding Excellence in Medical Education is an important part of our Pediatric Departmental Mission.

The Pediatric Educator Excellence Awards are recognitions
by faculty to honor their peers who have shown excellence in medical education.

Early Career Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education for the contribution of an Assistant Professor to medical education at any 4 years of medical school
Early Career Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Residency Education
for the contribution of an Assistant Professor to residency education
The Lockhart Above and Beyond Educator Award for the exceptional contribution of an Associate or Full Professor to undergraduate or graduate education, named in honor of Dr. Lillian Lockhart, UTMB Pediatric faculty from 1964-2020 (56 years).
Award for Excellence in Support of Pediatric Education (Staff) for the contribution of a UTMB staff member.
Award for Excellence in Support of Pediatric Education (Outside) for the contribution of faculty in a department other than Pediatrics, or preceptor from a community-based practice, or an education supporter from a community agency.


Nominations
:
Nominators must be Pediatric Faculty. They should describe the medical education efforts and activities of the nominee and provide rationale for the selection of this nominee. Although contributions outside the Department may be valued (e.g., contributions to other UTMB Departments, or Schools, or a national influence), the award must be given to someone who is making a direct contribution to the UTMB Department of Pediatrics. Nominators are requested to keep their nominations secret from the nominee.


Selection: 
An annual selection panel will be composed of the following members:

  • Last year's awardee for Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education
  • Last year's awardee for Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Residency Education
  • Residency program director
  • Clerkship director
  • One additional member
