Application: Procedures and Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

1. All residency program applicants must apply via the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) Program available through U.S. medical schools.
2. The program encourages the use of the ERAS Supplemental Application and signaling features.
3. US graduate resident applicants must:
   1. have graduated from or will graduate from an LCME approved US allopathic medical or osteopathic school by June 15th of the applicable year, or
   2. have graduated from an LCME approved medical school within 3 years of application for residency UNLESS enrolled in an ACGME accredited training program or in the US military.
      
4. International Medical Graduates must:
   1. have, or will have by June 15th of the applicable year, a completed ECFMG certificate and a CSA certificate where appropriate,
   2. have graduated from medical school within 3 years of application for residency UNLESS enrolled in an ACGME accredited training program or in the US military, and
5. All resident applicants must have appropriate references as to potential, acceptable proficiency in six ACGME-defined pediatric competencies.
6. Resident applicants must display the professional characteristics and behaviors expected of a physician including, but not limited to:
   1. a positive attitude towards medical students/residents in training and other health care professionals and to medicine in general,
   2. adaptability to new situations and a flexible work schedule,
   3. ability to learn quickly and follow directions, accountability and dependability,
7. Resident applicants must be able to carry out the duties and responsibilities of their appointed position with or without reasonable accommodations.
8. The deadline for applications is December 31st.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Applications for PGY-1 positions are accepted from early September (see ERAS-website for the application submission timeline) to Dec. 31 for appointment beginning mid-June. Interviews are scheduled from October to February.

All interviews will be conducted virtually via Zoom. Applicants will have dedicated time with residents either the day of the interview or at another scheduled night-time virtual event.

Applications for PGY-2 and PGY-3 positions will be accepted if positions are available.

REAPPOINTMENTS

The Department of Pediatrics is not obligated to continue any candidate's training beyond the first year. Residents are reappointed if their record indicates that they are capable of completing the residency and/or attaining certification by the American Board of Pediatrics.
